[ apartament + finisaje Ping Pong ]]

30 Jan

At 90 square feet, this apartment is lived in and conceived by Daniel Arsham as an accelerated design/build experiment and was completed within a two-month period at a cost of less than $100 per square foot. There’s a bed, a dresser, and built-in shelves – but, alas, no room for a table to play beer pong.

A pied-à-terre as permanent residence, Box/Box is an apartment for Snarkitecture partner Daniel Arsham. A 90 square foot private hideaway contained within a larger 2,500 square foot collaborative workspace, the project was conceived as an accelerated design/build experiment and was completed within a two-month period at a cost of less than $100 per square foot.

The selected site is an existing storage loft onto which the volume of the apartment sits like a gift balanced on a high shelf. Enclosed within this volume is a simple and economical program: a space for sleeping and dressing. A ladder at ground level leads upwards through a hatch concealed in the floor, entering a treehouse-like residence consisting of only a closet and a bed. A gradient of 25,000 spheres with a fire retardant intumescent coating clad the walls, moving from dark to light as they meet the illuminated grid of the ceiling, made of translucent panels that reveal a hidden grid of spheres when backlit. This luminous ceiling, the skylight and the facing mirrors on opposite walls brighten and expand the room to create an illusory space that appears more expansive than actual size.

Mullen Street House
Bernal Heights, San Francisco

The quiet, sunny location of this difficult site generated a wholly unique arrangement of space, not typical to the city– a San Francisco house where the main ideas expressed are transparency, sunlight, and a direct connection to nature. The house will integrate photovoltaic panels, a sod roof, and 25′ timber bamboo growing through the house.

acest superb apartament tip loft apartine unui fotograf american pe nume Rob Brinson si sotiei acestuia Jill Sharp Brinson de profesie stilist si designer. loftul este amenajat intr-o fosta fabrica de la 1800 din Atlanta.

Image above: The most amazing aspect of the studio is that it has over 1,000 panes of glass and has incredible light for my work. It is over 6,500 square feet with sections 25-feet tall with clerestories and was originally the foundry and pattern shop for the factory. Each day, 180 trains go past the studio, but I do not even hear them anymore. It’s located in the Westside District of Atlanta (which is pretty much the place for design, style, dining, etc.). This area was not that way 23 years ago, and I was pretty lonely over there, as I was the sole occupant of the 180,000 square-foot factory for a while, until I convinced a good friend he should risk all of his money on developing it as an art center. Luckily it worked, and we are still good friends. When living there, my young son referred to it as Fort Apache, but now it’s all chichi. The loft is an equal blend of my wife and I with a tilt toward me; my home probably tilts to her talent more. The style is industrial and functional. It’s kind of like a space with a view, as every room has great natural light

Ludwig Penthouse
San Francisco, California

Located in the penthouse of a concrete high-rise on Aquatic Park. The original 4-bedroom/4-bath penthouse was a rabbit’s warren of confusing rooms. In our re-design, rooms were combined and uses were re-assigned to allow the occupants to take advantage of the views looking north and south and the movement of the sun through out the day.

Materials used are clear and etched 1/2″ glass, slabs of Black walnut, hand made mosaic tile walls, and gun blued steel.
