[ sarah illenberger + partament berlin ]]

cine este sarah illenberger ?

Defining one category for all the work of Sarah Illenberger is no easy task. The forms the visual translations of her themes assume are far too diverse. What initially sounds quite abstract, in reality, is mostly practical in that her creations are not generated on a computer but rather by meticulous handwork, sometimes incorporating the most mundane materials. A story about love-sickness is visualised through an embroidered design. Variously coloured tablets are used to compose portraits for a magazine. And in Sarah’s hands, beauty products are given new life by being transformed into tourist landmarks. Whatever she creates, it is done with a humorous touch and a great love for detail. Each assignment leads to a unique work of art, sometimes visually enhancing the content of a feature, sometimes to be considered a work in its own right. In her Berlin studio, Sarah Illenberger develops concepts for editorial as well as commercial clients. She mostly works alone, but occasionally teams up with a photographer.

[ locuinta tubulara in japonia ]]

25 Nov

… arhitectii japonezi ARTechnic au construit recent o vila contemporana si  interesanta in karuizawa, japonia. designul este mai mult decat innovator. cine a mai vazut cladiri tubulare? nu e ca si cum se gasesc la tot pasul … si oricum, nu destinate locuirii si nu in padure :) curbele sinuoase creaza un spatiu diferit de ceea ce ochiul uman este obisnuit sa vada, sa perceapa … jocul celor 2 volume da o senzatie de organic … de natural. as zice ca aduc amintesc de trunchiurile copacilor cazuti intamplator prin paduri si de scorburile in care animalutele mici isi fac adapost … eu asa m-as simti locuind aici :) . un alt element interesant al acestei locuinte se poate observa in plan. intreaga constructie se ‘invarte’ in jurul unui singur brad, creand astfel un spatiu personal, un soi de gradina interioara … numai ca doar ideea uneia, avand in vedere ca ne aflam totusi in plina natura :)

[ The Rainbow Effect + instalatie grafica ]]

24 Nov

Two spectacular art installations made with Gutermann thread, wood, and nails by Gabriel Dawe.

Notes about the artist (from bio):

Gabriel Dawe was born in Mexico City where he grew up surrounded by the intensity and color of Mexican culture. After working as a graphic designer, he moved to Montreal, Canada in 2000 following a desire to explore foreign land. In search for creative freedom he started experimenting and creating artwork, which eventually led him to explore textiles and embroidery—activities traditionally associated with women and which were forbidden for a boy growing up in Mexico. Because of this, his work is subversive of notions of masculinity and machismo that are so ingrained in his culture. By working with thread and textiles, Dawe’s work has evolved into creating large-scale installations with thread, creating environments that deal with notions of social constructions and their relation to evolutionary theory and the self-organizing force of nature.

After seven years of living in Canada and gaining dual citizenship as a Mexican-Canadian, Gabriel moved to Texas to pursue graduate school at the University of Texas at Dallas where he is presently a candidate for an MFA in Arts and Technology. His work has been exhibited in Dallas, Houston, Montreal, Toronto and Barcelona.
